We are happy to announce our partnership with LUMI-AI, the successor of LUMI and the new pan-European supercomputer and AI Factory. This initiative, one of seven AI factories selected by EuroHPC JU, aims to drive Europe’s leadership in artificial intelligence.
Driving Europe's AI leadership
By combining AI and supercomputing, we are set to accelerate progressive research and innovation, tackling challenges across various industries and disciplines.
Finland leads the LUMI AI Factory consortium, which includes five other countries: the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Norway, and Poland. The new supercomputer will be placed in CSC — IT Center for Science’s data centre in Kajaani, Finland, where it will eventually replace the current LUMI supercomputer.
Norway’s Strategic Investment
Through Sigma2, Norway will invest 215 million NOK in the LUMI-AI hardware to ensure Norwegian researchers get sufficient resources to build upon the success of participating in the current LUMI supercomputer and support the digitalisation strategy of the Norwegian government. An additional 30 million NOK will be funded by the Norwegian Research Council to establish the Norwegian national part of the AI Factory
The Norwegian AI Factory functions will be designed to support the use of infrastructure and develop services that enable increased utilisation and innovative solutions for new user groups, such as industry and public administration. This amount will be doubled by the EuroHPC JU, through the EU Horizon Europe Programme.
